Understanding Kidney Disease and the Role of Hemodialysis

What is Kidney Disease?

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition where the kidneys lose their ability to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood. In the Philippines, CKD is among the top causes of illness and death.

Common Causes

  • Diabetes β€” the leading cause of kidney failure
  • Hypertension β€” high blood pressure damages kidney vessels
  • Recurrent kidney infections β€” if left untreated
  • Certain medications β€” prolonged use of pain relievers

What is Hemodialysis?

Hemodialysis is a life-sustaining treatment that uses a dialysis machine to filter waste, salt, and excess water from the blood when the kidneys can no longer do so effectively.

At GSAC General Hospital, our Hemodialysis Center is equipped with modern dialysis machines operated by trained nurses under the supervision of a nephrologist.
